I feel really, really angry at the moment, but also kind of resigned to the fact that my friends just won't accept the privilege that they hold, and won't acknowledge the achievements of feminists. They insist on insulting feminism all the time, and they don't realise that their own lives as they live them are only possible due to feminism. I've been arguing with them all the time, and I just want to either cry or smash something (preferably patriarchy). The main problem is 'Decembrow' which they oppose basically because feminists support it and because "it's weird for women to have monobrows". I've been saying that not everyone wants to be defined by how they look, and that it's making an insensitive generalisation to class everyone as just male or just female, and yeah, this isn't a question, it's just me searching for someone to agree with me.

i feel you, homes.

it’s so frustrating to witness people, especially people with whom yr close, deny their privilege, let alone watch them use it intentionally. the only way society will break hegemonic systems of patriarchy is to realize how the systems work, and the way the systems work is that the dominant groups in our society fight balls to the wall to keep anyone from realizing their privileges and disprivileges.

and it’s fucking hard to realize and accept yr privilege, you know? humans avoid at all costs feeling guilty, especially if it’s about something they can’t always control. privileged individuals will cling to their privilege for dear life because they’ve grown so accustomed to enjoying the fruits of someone else’s labor. and i think the reason this happens is because it is very difficult to create a system of accountability, self-awareness and privilege checks for oneself. why would you want to give up something that defines yr success and comfort? answer: because when you realize why some people get privilege and why others don’t, you realize this secret, intricate system that has been strategically put in place to favor one group over the other.

and then you get angry.

and then you understand intersectionality and become a feminist.

and then when people realize yr trying to take their privilege away they retaliate by attempting to invalidate feminist movements in any way they can to keep themselves oblivious.

also, i hadn’t heard of “Decembrow” but it sounds to me like anyone who opposes it thinks they’re the chief of the body police, which is some bulllllshit. what right does anyone have to insist that anyone else adhere to bullshit beauty standards because it makes them comfortable? zero.

i know why yr angry, and you fucking should be! i guess sometimes it takes people more time to come to an epiphany about the bullshit way the world works.
